28/05/2025

Four Egyptian films will compete at the 25th edition of the Khouribga African International Film Festival, which will be held from 21 to 28 June.

Story of the Fall (Qeset Khareef), written and directed by Karim Makram, will have its world premiere and compete in the Feature Film Competition.

In his feature debut, Makram explores the themes of alienation and loneliness among several characters from different social backgrounds.

The film stars Youssef Othman, Bouthaina Hagar, Ashraf Mahdy, Nada El-Shazly, among others.

Midnight Cinema, Mazen Lotfy's second feature film, will also compete in the Feature Film Competition.

The film follows the story of a director who frequently has nightmares after midnight, until he begins to notice details in his nightmares that make him wait until they return as if he were watching a film in a cinema.

Midnight Cinema stars Mostafa Khiyar, Mohamed Adham, Raghda Galal, Nagy Shehata, and others.

Hossam Waleed's film Dream, Uncertain, and Dying Everyday will compete in the Short Film Competition segment.

In a heartfelt journey of self-discovery, 18-year-old Shehab, a dreamy teen torn between his ambition to become a psychology teacher and his struggles with communication, must confront his insecurities and re-evaluate his confidence as he navigates the challenges of adolescence and the fictional world he cherishes.

The coming-of-age film stars Mousa Nasser, Mai Abd El Latif, Fatma Khaled, and Assem Ramadan.

No Parking or Waiting is the second Egyptian film competing in the Short Film segment.

On an ordinary morning, a man and his partner set out to spend the day together. They park their car on a busy street in Cairo to chat and drink coffee.

As they share a romantic moment and move closer for a kiss, the parking attendant unexpectedly records them on his phone and attempts to blackmail them. A confrontation erupts, drawing the attention of curious bystanders.

Although no one has seen it, news of the video spreads and divides public opinion. The situation escalates further when the attendant uploads the footage online, prompting the intervention of a police officer.

Written by May Ziady and directed by Amr Gouda, the film stars Hadil Hussein, Amr Saleh, and Michel Messak.

Established in 1977 and held annually in Khouribga city, the festival is one of Morocco's oldest and most important film festivals.

The festival showcases diverse films and filmmakers, promoting African cinema and cultural exchange.

This year, films by over 350 filmmakers from 45 countries will be featured, with Mauritania as the guest of honour.

The festival includes competitions for feature and short films. It will also introduce new awards for African cinema clubs and thematic seminars, such as African Cinema and Artificial Intelligence.
