Sustainable fashion initiative From Waste to Good Taste to launch third edition

From 11 April, From Waste to Good Taste (FWGT), a sustainable design initiative, will launch its third edition in Downtown Cairo, themed The Butterfly Effect, highlighting the transformative power of small, conscious choices in reshaping the future of design and sustainability.
Founded in response to the rise of fast fashion and its devastating environmental consequences, the third edition of FWGT — running for three days — extends its focus beyond fashion to encompass furniture, art, and material design, all with the goal of converting waste into valuable resources.
Building on the success of previous editions, the event's primary goal remains to raise funds for the Egyptian Clothing Bank. Every ticket purchased will contribute to providing school supplies and uniforms for students in need.
Manal Saleh, CEO of the Egyptian Clothing Bank, shared her thoughts on this year's expanded edition in an interview with Ahram Online.
"This year, we're broadening the scope to engage not only environmental advocates, creative artists, and designers, but also the fashion industry at large. The goal is to include all stakeholders in scaling up the impact and aligning with Egypt's Vision 2030. We're applying the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while addressing climate change through material repurposing, innovative design, and upcycling in production," Saleh said.
"The challenge each year is to ensure broad involvement and design an event that resonates across various segments," she added.
In addition to featuring sustainable brands, this year's event includes talks and panel discussions with industry leaders such as Sarah Abd-El Rahman, Marco Ferreri, Manal Olama, and Kegham Djeghalian.
More than 20 sustainable brands will display products including fashion, home decor, and art made from repurposed materials.
Workshops will encourage creative thinking and material innovation, while art installations from artists like Hoda Lasheen, Malak Helmy, Malak Ezz El Din, Shosha, and Sherif Morsy will challenge attendees' perceptions of waste.
The event will also feature live performances from cultural groups such as El Semsmya and Da Zanbkom, contributing to a vibrant, immersive atmosphere.
